Well, God is good. It has been a good week at the Davis house. From the title of this post, you can see we have had two major activities this week. The boys are starting baseball for the first time. J's first practice was Wednesday evening, and it went really well. We think the coaches are a great match for him. He's so excited about it. For that, we're very thankful. D will have his first practice over the weekend. We are looking forward to fun times learning a new sport and the opportunity to meet new families in the area.
The second exciting thing was that we attended a small group for the first time tonight, and it was a perfect match. Long story, but the girl who invited us, I knew in college. She was really good friends with twins who lived on my floor when I was their RA. Anyway we played intramural basketball together my junior year. In fact, I have a picture of her in my college scrapbook. So thankful for that connection. It was really comfortable tonight for the study and the boys had a good time with the other kids.
So, for me, these have been two great things. After we moved to M---, I really enjoyed the complete downtime. The three months before we moved here were so completely hectic, and I was drained emotionally and physically. I was extremely thankful for that time as a family to not be pulled in a million directions. It was a relaxing time for us to focus on our family and regroup. That being said, now I'm going a little stir crazy. I am needing connections. I'm needing to meet "girls". I'm needing to get out of the house. I'm needing some more things on my to-do list, b/c apparently I have become completely apathetic about some things. I am much more productive when I have a little bit more on my plate. I'm slightly lazy right now, looking at the house and thinking, "oh, I'll clean that tomorrow; I don't have anything else scheduled" Of course, I keep putting off the cleaning until the next tomorrow.
So, I'm excited about these connections. We are being intentional about getting involved. It takes time. You have to be open to new friendships, but you can't appear too needy/clingy. There is a fine balance being the new person in the group. So, if you're thinking about me, pray for these new relationships.

I'm still here
So, apparently, I only feel the need to post about once a month or so. I know I should do a better job with this, but it just doesn't always happen.
I've been slightly obsessed with Facebook lately. However, I'm a little frustrated with it. Twice now, I've worked on those little notes that everyone sends around like the 25 Things or the questions about your firstborn. So both times, I had finished the lists and was selecting the people to "tag". During both times, somehow I clicked on the wrong icon during the process, and it all disappeared! I couldn't believe it. I tried to go back to it, but it was gone. The strange thing was that the text was gone, but the people I had tagged were still there. AAAGGGHHH. After that I gave up. I thought about trying to rewrite it, but I get a little hung up on what I wrote the first time and can't recreate it. So that's my Facebook frustration.
In other news, J had an economics fair at school yesterday. It was a lot of fun. They have been studying economics and the role of producers and consumers, so the project was for them to decide on something to produce, market and sell. J decided on W--- Cookies (W----- is the name of our school). He was able to write an advertisement and make a commercial that was played for the whole school on their video announcements. Also, he made the sign for the booth. I was very impressed with his organization skills and time management. He didn't procrastinate and was working hard at remembering each part of the project to make certain that he had completed everything. I baked the cookies on Monday while he was in school, and then he decorated them that night. The whole school was going to get to come and shop at the sale, so we practiced what to say to our customers and how to figure out the total and count back change. The teachers were very smart. Everything was to be priced in $.50 increments to help the kids be very independent. Well, it all went so smoothly. J sold out of his W------ Cookies and then he began helping his other friends sell their items. It was a great project for the kids. They learned so much about economics. I have pictures to post, but they're not uploaded yet. I figure I should post this first and then come back to add the pictures or else it might never happen.
So, that's what is going on here in the big M!

Better Late than Never
Okay, so Holly reminded me that I should update my blog. I didn't realize it had been so long. In the blogging world, I feel pressured to upload pictures, but I never feel like doing that. I figure no one really wants to read my ramblings without pics to look at, too. So, Holly, you asked for it. Here's an update.
We have found a church. God is so faithful. We visited The Branch, the satellite church for Farmers Branch. It's been right under our noses the entire time. Of course, we always knew that it was an option, but we just wanted something closer. We were hoping to be able to connect with people from church who also live in M---. Well, after talking with Philip and Aimee about our dilemma, they really encouraged us to give it a try. We are so glad they planted that seed in us. We were so excited to try it, but with traveling over Christmas, we had to wait until this past Sunday. It was amazing. Of course, it reminded me so much of RHCC that it felt like home immediately. We will be going to the orientation class this week. We will also get involved in trying out a small group this week too.
We are so thankful the LORD allowed us to go through this time. It gave us the opportunity to search for what was important to us. We really discussed each church and what we liked or felt was missing for us. It was so amazing how Paul and I were completely in synch with one another with what we desired from our church. That is a complete display of God's faithfulness. One thing I prayed in this process was that neither Paul nor I would feel that we were compromising in finding our church home. Each of us had things we desired in a church family, many were the same, but we placed a different priority on others. From the first prayer during service, Paul and I knew that we were in the right place.
The other amazing part was watching our boys during service. They were engaged in the praise and worship, and they also seemed so comfortable. Both of us noticed their behavior that it showed they felt it was the right place, even if they were unable to articulate that.
We are obviously thankful for this next phase in our move to begin. We have truly felt a void during this time where we weren't weekly connecting with a church family. To all of our RHCC friends, remember what an amazing place it is. Truly amazing.
So, that's it. We continue to become more familiar with M--- each week. Baseball signups are happening now, and the boys want to play. That will be fun.

Cookie Exchange
Well, today was one of my favorite traditions of the season: The Davis Girls' Annual Cookie Exchange! Thanks, Holly, for having it at your house this year. I'm sure it was worth it, so you didn't have to drive all the way to my new house.
I love dearly each girl who came to the cookie exchange. It was very important to me, this year especially, to continue this tradition. With our move, I have felt it very important to maintain these friendships. Hence, this blog. I knew that if we didn't do the cookie exchange this year, that it wouldn't continue (at least not with me in the same group.)
Anyway, what a fantastic time we had. I opened all of the cookies tonight when I got home. They all look so yummy. The packages were beautiful. Great job, girls! Hopefully Kendra will post some pics so I can add them to my blog. She had her camera. Thanks for "documenting" our day, as Danyelle says!

The Suburban is Gone
Well, we've done it, finally. We have traded in the suburban. I know all of my friends can breathe a huge sigh of relief. We were still experiencing more problems with it, took it to the dealership mechanic, and they correctly diagnosed the problem. It would take another $1000 to repair it. We did not want to put that into it, considering that it's barely worth more than that.
So, off to the dealership we went yesterday, "just to look". Well, by the time we left, we had bought a used Odyssey, oops, "pre-owned" is the correct term. Now, remember who is writing this. This is not all of the bells and whistles Odyssey. Please recall that we often joked that our Suburban had the Amish package for upgrades: manual window, vinyl floors, vinyl seats....... We are very excited to bring it home today. I will be thankful for something reliable again.
Now, we did have some progress when we brought the sub to trade it in yesterday. When I was pregnant with Jake, we traded in my Miata for a Mazda 626. When I brought my Miata in for the trade in, I saw the sales people standing off to the side laughing at it, b/c it was looking a little rough. Just because I had a duct tape on the plastic part of the convertible top, b/c it had started leaking. AND just b/c I also had to keep a plastic bowl back there to catch the water dripping in, in case the duct tape didn't work. I really don't think that's any reason to stand off to the side and laugh at me as I drove in.
Driving the Suburban in, the salesmen were actually a little more in awe of the truck. If you're into trucks, it really is pretty "cool". So, that's better than them laughing at it! We were just thankful that it started for them once we were there.
So, all of you can relax knowing that the suburban is gone.

Friends and more friends
I had a great weekend catching up with friends. A life-long friend of mine from Kansas drove to Texas to see us Thurs-Sat. Her name is Stacey, and she has two beautiful girls named Isabelle and Johanna. They are 2 (in October) and 8 months old. Needless to say, she is super busy.
We have been friends since Kindergarten, and I love her dearly. When I moved away after fourth grade, we began writing letters to each other. I saved all of my letters, including the Garfield picture she painted for me on notebook paper that she can't even remember! We have gone through a lot "together" over the years. Although we did live semi-close to each other at one point while we were both in the Houston area, most of our friendship has been long-distance. I am amazed at how consistently God puts people in our lives. He is so faithful to take care of us through our relationships.
Thanks, Stacey, for coming to see me. Now it's my turn to drive your way. However, I will never get the bonus points you racked up in your trip here. Somehow traveling with a two year old and an 8 month old gets more points than a 5 and 8 year old.
Another friend I had the chance to see over the weekend was a friend Jennifer from high school. We had not seen each other in fifteen years, but I found her on FACEBOOK! All of the non-facebookers can laugh now. Anyway, it's amazing finding her and learning that she will be traveling to Thailand in the spring time to be a missionary! Wow! We've come a long way since high school. She's such a great girl. I have lots of fun memories of Jennifer, so I'm extremely thankful to have reconnected. I pray that I'm able to support her in this next adventure in her life. Over the weekend, she had a jewelry party to raise funds for her trip. The jewelry is made by people in Thailand where she'll be living. They had amazing jewelry. I think I was supposed to be buying gifts for other people, but instead, I bought two necklaces for me! haha
I can hardly wait to hear more about her testimony of how she came to know the Lord in college. I realized how naive I was in high school, somewhat assuming that everyone went to church and knew the Lord. It was also eye opening to realize that I had missed an opportunity to share my faith with someone at that time. However, God is faithful to bring the right people into our lives to bring His Word to everyone. I am excited to hear more about it.
